sore heads.

My boy loves school, he loves learning new things, his teachers, his friends, the whole thing really. So when he was apprehensive to go to school on Friday for testing it was a red flag for us. We talked about it and randomly he tells us he has been getting sore heads while reading and this is why he doesn't want to go.

So we get his eyes tested and he has so over active eye muscles that affect him while reading or studying anything up close. So he will have to have glasses. This opened up a whole mine field of questions for hubby and I as we have zero experience with glasses or buying them. Thankfully we got it all sorted out and the glasses have been ordered. Overall he is taking it really well, he is a little apprehensive about what comments his friends will have to say, but he only has to wear them for reading and writing and not all the time which is good news.

The other good news is that he will grow out of it. With the help of the glasses he won't be in pain and can continue to enjoy school and learning as much as before. Apparently this is a common defect that many children have that quite often will never be detected as the never tell a parent or guardian or teacher that it is sore when they read. Instead what happens is they loose interested in reading and writing and consequently loose interest in school and learning.

Here's my one final thought. If you had asked me before last week if my child had issues with reading i would have said no, i would have said he was a strong reader, reading several grades above his age and that he loved reading. We are just so glad that he told us and that we can correct it easily and he wont' be in pain anymore. So, I'm asking if you have a child please just take a moment today and ask them if they get sore heads or pain while reading. They'll almost likely say no, but isn't it better to check.

What a relief to figure out the problem! That's really good for parents to know and I hope he adjusts well.
