Vienesse Whirls

My mum gave me a cook book for Christmas, I have to say the recipes are fantastic. So over the weekend i thought I'd try one of them out. This is what in my mind they should look like....

I have to say it was an interesting recipe, lots of corn starch and the frosting contained flour and hot milk. It looked like lumpy mashed potatoes! Anyway once the dough for the biscuits was made i put it in the pipping bag to make them look all pretty an swirly but the pipping bag split on me and there was stuff everywhere. The kids thought it was hysterical! So instead of pretty swirls we rolled the dough into small balls and flattened them down and baked them!

They came out looking good so once cooled i filled them with jam and the crazy frosting and let them set in the fridge. Here's the finished product......

I have to say the frosting tasted so good, not too sweet and really creamy. Overall a lot of fun to make and they tasted pretty good for the first time. This is one of the things i have discovered living abroad, there is a lot of things, especially food, that you miss and the greatest accomplishment for me is to be able to make some of these things so i have a taste of back home and my childhood. This definitely fitted into this category.

They do look like those, but are more like a shortbread cookie.
